Carnaval in Mazatlan
Visitors
and locals scream, sing, shout and dance amid confetti and ribbons.
Bands of all kinds play the infectious rhythms of the State of Sinaloa.
And the food–oh, the food–camarones (shrimp) prepared in
every way possible, washed down with ice cold Pacifico beer, for it’s

The Real Mexico is for people who, after their
first visit to Mexico, want to know more. Unlike many other countries, people
either love Mexico or they hate it. There's no in between. Perhaps, it's
because as a culture, Mexico is one of the deepest, going down through
many levels to its ancient history. As a country, it's complicated. But
both are what make thousands of people like yourself love Mexico.
A trip to Cancun, for all its beauty and excitement, might as well be a
trip to Bermuda. For, like Bermuda, Cancun welcomes North Americans to
the point that it almost doesn't seem like a foreign country. However,
Cancun, a fully man-made resort, isn't Mexico. It's in Mexico, but it
isn't really Mexico. Those Mexicans who live and work in Cancun carry on
Mexican traditions for themselves but at the resorts, many cater to
North American tastes.
This site is dedicated to all those who've made their first trip to
Cancun or even Los Cabos in Baja California and came away with a craving
for more. The Real Mexico aims to give you more of Mexicoits history,
politics, culture, cuisine, and its peopleso on your next visit, you,
too, will appreciate all that Mexico has to offer.
This site is meant to be an interactive one. You're encouraged to ask
questions and even contribute tips about places you've visited or people
you've met. Just as visiting Mexico can be an adventure, so this site is
embarking on an adventure of its ownto show the world the Real
Mexico.
